It’s eight events between August 2020 and March 2021 for women in the Wellington region who like riding their bikes and want to get fitter, have fun and gain confidence riding on the road in a group.
This year the series involves a variety of different club events, all intended to upskill & develop more confidence riding at a steady bunch pace with other women of similar ability. For women who've not done much bunch riding or never raced before, it's a chance to develop your skills. For more experienced women, it's a chance to ride with women at your pace, and to share your knowledge with others.
What does the series include?
There are seven events in the series. At each event there will be experienced riders available to give help and advice; signage or marshals on the course to show the route; and a vehicle as backup in case of mechanical problems or to give women a lift back to the start if they need one.
Here’s the series outline. Full details of each event, including the meeting point and course, will be posted on the WMCC website nearer the time.
Event 1: Spring Start
Meet at Wainuiomata school for a road riding skills session. We'll have 3 different groups/levels starting from 9am.
This ride will help prepare you for the upcoming events, and even the Lake Wairarapa Cycle Challenge in October
We'll ride out toward the South Coast, with the option of turning at the Remutaka Forest Park entrance on Coast Road.
We’ll be riding in small groups of about 10 women, with lots of pace options to choose from. Coffee/lunch afterwards at Kotuku Café.

FAQ & details (please read!)
Who can take part?
The series is open to all women 16 years and over. It is suited to women who have a road bike and can comfortably ride 30 kilometres or more.
What does the series cost?
Entering the series costs $75 ($40 from January '21).
Individual events cost $30 each.
For women under 30:
* Please note that you need to register online for each event by 7pm on the Thursday before the event.
I’m already a WMCC member. Do I need to pay for the series?
No. The cost of the series is covered by the membership fee you’ve paid.
I can’t do all the events in the series. Can I still take part?
Yes, if you don’t want to enter the series you can come along to individual events. Entries for individual events will open the week before the event. Payment will be cash on the day.
The cost for each event is $30.
When can I enter?
Entries for the series are open now! You can enter online anytime during the series. Alternatively, you can enter by paying cash on the day of any of the series events. Entries for individual events will open the week before the event.
Will I be fit enough?
These events are open to all women 16 years and over who can comfortably ride 30 kilometres or more at any pace.
This series is focused on having fun and being safe at whatever pace you feel comfortable to ride. We'd like to get enough women taking part to be able to form several groups of different speeds.
What happens if there’s bad weather?
We take safety very seriously. Although we rarely cancel events, we will if the weather is too wet or windy. Alternatively, we may change the course.
Unfortunately, if we do need to cancel an event, we can’t run it on another day.
Do I need to volunteer?
Every WMCC member needs to volunteer at two WMCC events each year. Women who take part in the Womens Series for the first time don’t need to volunteer (although we’d love it if you did!)
If you have friends or family that want to come and support you but don’t want to ride, please tell us if they’d be willing to volunteer. The types of jobs they’d be doing include marshalling at a corner, driving our van at the back of the group, registering women or recording times.
I’ve registered, what happens next?
Great! We’re excited to have you with us for the series. Tell your friends and encourage them to join you!
You’re now a WMCC member so you’ll start to receive the WMCC weekly email.

We’ll be creating Facebook events for each of the Women’s Series events, so you can keep track of the dates, see who else is planning to come and share lifts.
For all our events, including the Women’s Series, you need to register online by Thursday 7pm the week before the event. This helps us cater properly for the number of riders we expect on the day.
